Globally, society in general, and industry in particular, is currently focused on sustainability: ecological footprint, CO₂ emissions, recycling, and responsible use of raw materials.
Even within our sector, aluminum surface treatment, we are increasingly confronted with recycled aluminum, high energy prices, stricter requirements for waste stream management, and a growing demand for sustainable products and processes.
In response to this, CoatR has developed an innovative system suitable for both primary and recycled aluminum. This system enables the application of a fully-fledged corrosion-resistant conversion coating with minimal pickling, and therefore significantly reduced energy and rinse water consumption.
In concrete terms, this means that significantly less energy is required to heat degreasing and/or pickling baths, rinse water consumption is minimized, and sludge and wastewater no longer need to be treated or discharged. Furthermore, significantly less chemicals are required per m² than with conventional pretreatment methods. This not only reduces the environmental impact but also contributes to better and safer working conditions due to reduced use of chemicals.
Moreover, this system guarantees equivalent, and in some cases even better, quality properties than the conventional pretreatment systems currently used in the sector. For example, the system easily meets the acetic acid salt spray test (AASS) with results from over 3,000 hours.
