Lessons in Powder Coating: 1 or 2 coats
In the world of powder coating, the question often arises: should we choose a single layer of 60µm, two layers of 110µm, with or without Seaside? And more importantly, when is it appropriate to apply which system? That is why we want to pay attention to this in our series 'Lessons in powder coating'.

Coating profiles all the way around is often a challenge for powder coaters, especially to maintain an even layer thickness without problems during installation. Powder coating, an electrostatic process in which charged powder particles are applied to a grounded object, can have a reduced coverage of hard-to-reach corners and edges due to the Faraday effect. Our experienced powder coaters approach these areas closer with hand guns and with lower voltage, which improves coverage but can also result in a thicker layer. When requested to coat ‘all around, but not too thick’, the suspension method and spray settings play a crucial role in ensuring optimum quality.

More hydrophobic? Discover the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 powders Hydrophobicity plays a key role in the durability and maintenance of coatings. Class 2 polyester powders are a step up from Class 1 in this regard. Thanks to their stronger water-repellent properties, surfaces stay cleaner for longer and are protected against influences such as corrosion and algae growth. Ideal for construction and coastal applications where aesthetics and weather resistance are paramount. What makes these powders so special, and why is hydrophobicity a game changer? Find out here!
